Here is another handmade paper crafty project I made using a scrap piece of wood as a base and silver wire for hanging. I thought these would make cute summer gifts that could be hung by a little shelf in a beachy themed bathroom, or tacked on a “to do” board for a little pick me up during the work day.
To start, I found a quote about the sea – how it makes us feel walking along the edge with our toes in the sand and the relaxing sounds of the rolling waves. I printed the quote on light blue paper and layered it with varied colors of tan and blue handmade paper to represent the sand and water.
Then I added pretty little shells and tiny gravel pieces with blue star glitter glue. You’re asking – glitter glue?? Yep, this elementary, messy ingredient is my fun secret tool I like to use on a lot of different paper crafting projects. Different colored and shaped glitter is suspended in clear craft glue and adds a sparkly final touch. You can draw dimensional little dots and lines, or you can lightly smear it with your finger to create a sparkly surface over an area.
If you want to use the plaque in a bathroom or other place near water, you can seal the wooden surface with an acrylic spray.
To hang, I added a loopy silver wire with sea-colored beads. These little plaques also work great without a hanger and leaned against the wall of a desk or shelf.
This finished plaque is about 3 x 6 inches, but you can make your crafty version any size or shape you would like. You can also purchase wooden shapes at any craft store.
Happy summer!
