3D Fabric Christmas Wreath

I love this pattern for the Fold ‘n’ Stitch Wreath from Poor House Quilt Designs. It’s so fun to make and creates a beautiful piece for the holidays.

I used three gold metallic accented fabrics in a bright modern combination that I couldn’t resist.

The pattern has all the detailed instructions – it’s a clever idea using 12 squares with a large print fabric appliqued on top. You can turn the squares right side without leaving and opening that needs closing, because of the “X” cut in each.

The “X” is covered by the applique – so cool!

Tips for Success:

For a great final look, use two tone-on-tone fabrics that compliment the large print fabric.

Select the more interesting pattern for the “back” fabric, because it shows most on top of the final wreath. (the red fabric in my sample)

Use thread that matches the “back” fabric, so the final wreath looks neat with subtle zig zag stitches on top. It’s okay if the thread contrasts with the large print fabric on the front because it still blends well with the print.

Keep a close eye on how you sew the squares together, keeping the small end of the template guide toward the middle of the wreath so you don’t accidently sew the angle the wrong way.

The pattern suggests machine sewing the final flaps together or gluing on gems at each point. I didn’t like the unfinished look of machine stitches or the idea of gluing. So for this sample, I hand sewed gold beads to connect each point and I’m really pleased how delicate it is and how it picks up the metallic in the fabric.

Try crafting your own 3D fabric wreath and enjoy a little holiday sparkle!
