This is the first project in a series using the patterns in Virginia Lindsay’s book, “Sewing to Sell.” It has great crafty sewing projects and inspiration for taking your sewing creativity to the next level.
Project #1 Craft Apron
I have sewn many aprons over the years to sell and give as gifts, but this pattern is a great modern version with lots of pockets and is easy to put together with layered rectangles. I’m looking forward to wearing it while crafting and putting all my crafty tools inside! It could also be a great “uniform” for a crafty ladies group.
For my apron, I used a scrap piece with a red, white, and blue color combination and added a cream duck fabric that I think gives it a modern feel. The pattern shows a clever way to make the pockets staggered in width by sewing each layer in a certain order. For easy measuring, I used my favorite 6 x 24 inch quilting ruler. It’s so easy to make sewing guidelines straight and square without the hassle of measuring in two places, making tick marks, and then connecting them with a line. I use this ruler and my self-healing mat for all my sewing and paper crafting projects!
My daughter is modeling the final product because I discovered that for crafters who wear larger sizes, like me :), they will probably need to add a few inches in the width so it reaches around the side of the hips and look more flattering.
I hope you enjoy this sewing series using “Sewing to Sell” by Virginia Lindsay – next up, Zipped Pouch, project #2!
