This springtime DIY is inspired by Shannon, The Daily DIYer on her Youtube channel. She created a lovely glass bowl of tulip bulbs set in stones and moss.
I crafted my own version using Dollar Tree small daffodils, and different techniques I’ve seen for inspiration.
Supplies:
Dollar Tree crate, stained or painted in desired color
Dollar Tree small Daffodils, each stem cut off the main stem
Dollar Tree floral tape and floral foam
Styrofoam balls, I used 1 1/2 inch, but if I were to do this again in this size, I would use 1 inch to make the proportions better!
Kraft paper lunch bag
Dollar Tree Spanish moss and Floral moss
Hot glue gun
Additional embellishments such as a Dollar Tree chalkboard label, twine, and ribbon
To bulk up the daffodil stems, wrap with floral tape. I started right above where the three flowers meet and squeezed them together, so they are not as floppy. Then wrap down the stem, incorporating the leaf inside about 2 or 3 inches down. Continue to wrap to reach the bottom. The leaves were now above the flowers too much, so I cut off a couple inches, rounding the top into shape.
Next poke the stem into the styrofoam balls to the desired height. Then cut six 5 x 2.5 inch pieces of kraft paper and crinkle them to wrap around each ball to create the bulb. Add Spanish moss at the base to resemble roots. A little of the stem should still be poking out the bottom.
Assemble the crate, cutting the floral foam to desired size and add floral moss on top. Add a little hot glue to the stem under each root and poke into the crate. I lined up six in mine.
Embellish as desired to add some farmhouse market sale charm and enjoy your crafty creation!
Bonus Inspiration:
I crafted another piece with the rest of the daffodil stems, a smaller Dollar Tree crate, moss bunny, and some handmade ribbon carrots (still no Dollar Tree carrots out in my area!). It’s hidden a little, but my hubby helped me cut some pieces to add a crafty handle to the crate to add even more personality – so cute!
