My Dollar Tree obsession continues into summer, and I couldn’t resist crafting some wreaths for the season. I tried a couple seaside, floral, and July 4th themes. The fun of Dollar Tree is searching out the craft items to inspire your creations. I have 4 stores near me, and I can find different treasures at each one! It can get out of control because everything is so cute and only $1.25 of course, but I learned from a YouTube creator to only buy items you need for a planned project. Don’t impulse buy because those cute crafty things may sit in a pile and never get used.
All these wreaths use the Dollar Tree 14 inch wreath form wrapped with one spool of the burlap/lace 2 inch ribbon. The three yards covers the form perfectly. I also like using 10 inch wide tan or off-white mesh from Hobby Lobby for the base of all the wreaths. The neutral color keeps them from getting too cutesy. I used Country Charm by Tracy’s (on YouTube) technique of creating two rows of bubble mesh around the form. Then I added the mesh curl bundles in 18 places around the wreath, attaching them with pipe cleaners. I varied them by adding Dollar Tree 6 six mesh and various ribbons to add color to each. Lastly, I added the main focal point item to add the whimsy.
I found these casual, dusty-colored “Farmhouse” flowers in a display at Dollar Tree and knew they would come together for a pretty country look. Along with the large country ranunculus and baby wax flowers came the sprays of witch hazel, which were so unique! I paired them with a Dollar Tree “Home Sweet Home” light up wood decor piece. All I had to do was add a couple wooden roof pieces and secured it to the wreath with popsicle sticks glued to the back.
I love all the metal decor pieces but didn’t quite know how to use them, but this dimensional metal butterfly looked great in this wreath with its body made from a matching 3 inch ribbon from Hobby Lobby. I love the lilac accent color and ferns with the burlap colored mesh.
I dry brushed this large lighthouse with white and black and painted in the windows for my second attempt to use a metal piece. Be sure to spray with an acrylic sealer otherwise the paint will easily rub off. I only used the bubble technique on the mesh behind the lighthouse, with layered 10 inch tan and 6 inch blue to make the “waves”. And then I topped it with a nautical rope knot for a bow.
The seahorse wreath has a more dreamy under-the-sea feel with the aqua ribbon and white Dollar Tree starfish and sand dollar accents. I just love how this one turned out – my favorite so far!
There are endless possibilities for crafting red, white and blue themed wreaths using Dollar Tree decor pieces as the focal point. I had to really use my self control and only buy the few I needed for the wreaths! Isn’t the gnome on top of a large wooden star so fun? And of course who could resist a red pick up truck with its American flag flowing in the back. I think both turned out fun and pretty for July 4th home decor.
I hope these inspire you to try crafting up a wreath of your own. Add one to your front door or give them to friends to kick off the summer season!
