Simple Inspirational Quote Wooden Blocks

Super Easy Quote Blocks

Have scrapbook paper with inspirational quote designs? I buy these paper pads to make handmade greeting cards, but also like to think of other ways to use the pages. I see so many inspirational wooden / metal / chalkboard plaques and frames with handwritten lettering in stores, and I wanted to make my own crafty version.

This project is a super simple version, using supplies you probably already have in your craft room. And the final result is so cute and fun!

Supplies:
Craft acrylic paint in brown and metallic gold (I used Bark Brown, Cinnamon and Inca gold)
Piece of scrap wood (My husband is a woodworker, so I have scrap pieces but many craft supply stores sell wooden plaques for crafting.)
Scrapbook paper with quotes (I used a quote from Paper House Color Washed paper pad)
Modge Podge
Sponge brush

To paint the “stain” onto the wood, use a little of the dark & light brown. Wet the sponge brush thoroughly and lightly dab into the paint. Brush the watered down paint along the grain. Don’t worry if you get a darker spot – just dip the brush into more water and paint over again to lighten. You can also wipe the wood with a paper towel. Paint both sides, and let dry.

I like how it has a stained effect and the grain still shows – just by using a little watered down craft paint!

Next, rinse and dry the sponge brush thoroughly, and apply the metallic paint around all the edges. Let dry.

I like how it adds a little pizazz and the gold coordinates with the gold foil lettering on my quote paper.

Rinse and dry the sponge brush, and paint a layer of Modge Podge to the front of the wood. Carefully place the paper onto the wet glue and rub down with your fingers. Let dry.

Paint another layer of Modge Podge over the quote paper. Use a light touch so the color doesn’t disintegrate and rub off.

Then paint a layer of Modge Podge over the rest of the wood block. Let dry, then add another coat to the entire wood block.

To add a felt flower like on the smaller sample, use the technique here, except I cut out six individual petals of each color and hot glued them around the center as described.

Isn’t it cute? Something fun to add to your desk, or put in a place in your home where you can see it for a little pick-me-up each day. Positive pretty crafty pieces make me happy!
